RESIDENCY EXPERIENCES

“This residency was an amazing kick start to get an old concept refreshed and generate a number of documents in consultation with laura - a slide deck, concept video, project text, and a grant proposal for the project...It was great!”
—KELLY JACLYNN ANDRES, PHD • NEVIS, AB (CA)

“My initial intention for the remote residency was to prepare for an upcoming solo exhibition. This goal was met, but in ways that I did not expect and am incredibly grateful for. Laura is a joy to work with. She is thoughtful, kind, has a wealth of experience, and is generous in sharing her knowledge and expertise. While I had a set of goals, Laura had insights for approaches and actions that I did not know I needed. I learned so much and accomplished a great deal in a very short amount of time. It was very accessible and productive for me, with far-reaching outcomes for my practice.“
—JACKLYN BRICKMAN • KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN (US)

“My time at the Plexus Projects Artist Residency was extremely helpful. The residency's structure of weekly one-on-one sessions with Laura provided invaluable guidance, helping me refine my approach to applications, correspondence, and long-term planning. Laura helped me rewrite my artist statement and work descriptions and gave exceptional guidance on developing decks for different opportunities and guided me through designing each of them. I also learned a huge amount about structuring my digital admin.”
JONAH KING • NEW YORK, NY (US)

“The remote residency helped me kick-off my practice for the new year in a new phase of my artistic journey - having recently moved to a new continent, in a new studio space, and with more time to focus on my practice. Additionally, over the past 2 years or so, I moved from a practice of 100% painting, to now doing about 50% painting, 50% digital works. I wanted have deeper guidance on how to develop my digital projects and gain insight into professional practices related to working with multimedia and digital technologies, and this residency was perfect way for me to get a better lay of the land, and start off the year with a working idea/proposal for a project.”
XINYI ZHANG • NICOSIA (CY)

“I loved it! The self-guided aspect was incredibly useful and I feel more confident in describing my work...I've been applying to more opportunities now with my improved applications...The support and validation I got when making new work this month has motivated me to make more!”
—ALISHA SHIMPI • NEW YORK, NY (US)

“The one-on-one feedback and insights from Laura were super helpful as an artist working with similar mediums and areas within the art world. I have new insights on how to get opportunities and on how to conduct studio visits.”
SARA DITTRICH • BALTIMORE, MD (US)

“I loved my remote residency with Laura. I learned a great deal. With Laura's brilliant feedback, I improved my website and public-facing presence and improved the writing on my website, particularly my bio, my contact page, and several of my project pages.“
MEREDITH DRUM • BLACKSBURG, VA (US)

"It was my first time participating in a remote residency. I would say that this format has proven to be more flexible and intimate than i initially anticipated. The ability to work directly with the director, while maintaining a schedule that accommodated my personal rhythm, allowed me to focus on my artistic practice without the usual pressures of a traditional residency. I have been particularly grateful for the insightful feedback from Laura—guidance that has been incredibly valuable in helping me refine my approach to the project that has not only helped me sharpen the conceptual direction of my work, but it has also inspired new avenues for exploration that I hadn’t considered before...."
—YUKANG TAO • NEW YORK, NY (US)
